What I Write About

I write about gardening in zone 5, music, photography, and life's ups and downs.

Why I Started My Gardening Blog.

As a freelance writer, staying on top of my writing skills is probably the number 1 reason why I started blogging. I write a weekly gardening article for two local newspaper and having a blog is an added benefit readers of my column can use to find more information about gardening.

I also wanted to share my experiences as a father and husband with others. Hobbies I enjoy include amateur photography and bluegrass music, blogging about these activities allows me the opportunity to possibly land a few gigs and maybe get a few of my photographs noticed for possible publication.

Writing the blog is also a way to connect with other gardeners, writers, musicians, and photographers. Although social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook might be more popular, they're not as useful as a writing tool as blogging. Blogging allows me to expound at length on topics of my choice.

I think writers should blog, especially if they're new authors looking to publish a book. I am in the process of finding a publisher for a book I plan to write about gardening. Blogging can show publishers your writing skills and perhaps even more important, if you have lots of followers of your blog, it can show a publisher that you're a good candidate for selling your own books.
