Most of My Gardening is from My Gut

A yard coming to life after being completely cleared.

Who or what inspired me to garden.

My earliest childhood memories are of time spent in the garden with my grandmother. Whether it was picking fruit and nuts from her trees, pruning hedges or selecting beautiful flowers for indoor arrangements, the "seed was planted". I have had an affinity for all things gardening for as long as I can remember. The saddest times for me included those periods of my life where I lived in rental apartments and had no access to gardening. I longed to once again put my hands in the Earth and feel like one with nature.

How I learned to garden.

I learned to garden by watching my grandmother as she carefully tended to the variety of trees, plants and flowers needs. Otherwise I just rely on my innate knowledge and understanding of nature's needs. When I am uncertain, I research the internet, but most of my gardening is from my gut.

Lessons learned

  • To stay on top of your gardening projects. Do not let time slip away and overgrowth kill your plants.
  • Do not be afraid to cut things back to the quick to begin again. Sometimes the end is the only way to begin again.
