My gardens now.
right now, just doing window sill gardening on my window sill, all i have room for. Just doing herbs, sage, thyme, rosemary, basil, garlic chives. Not having luck with the sage :(
How I share my love of gardening with others?
In conversation at the grocery stores, farmer's market, and or people I meet on the bus.
Who or what inspired me to garden.
No one person inspired me, I grew up on a farm in Northern Minnesota, and most farms have family gardens. Joined a 4-H club and growing a vegetable garden was one of my projects. Only thing I didn't like about it was the weeding. But what I knew back then (over 30 years ago) is helping me now. Haven't done any type of gardening since I left the farm, just didn't have the space. Now I am learning how to garden in containers. Doing good with that for now. :)
How I learned to garden.
What I learned, I learned from my Parents and 4-H. Because of where I lived in Minnesota, and at the time, the growing season was not very long, about four to five months, depending on the last snow fall of spring. Planted the leafy lettuce, red radishes, green onions, carrots, peas, green and waxy beans, corn, squash, cucumbers, and my favorite tomatoes. Next garden I have I am going to try and grow more exotics.
- What fruit trees, vegetables can grow in certain regions.
- When to plant.
- Don't use fertilizer unless really necessary let mother nature do her job. All I had to do was keep the insects and weeds down to a bare minimum.
