My gardens now.
I have a large garden now and it was bare when we came here. It now has trees and perennial bushes and I am just in the process of putting up a greenhouse. I am 59 and love gardening. I buy nearly every time I am out but am getting to know how to take cuttings. I am building a wall on side of house.
How I share my love of gardening with others?
My friend's husband gives me flowers he brought on, and I plant them and think of how kind he is in doing that for me. I also love to pick flowers and take them to a friend or relative, feels lovely.
Who or what inspired me to garden.
When I had a ground floor flat I planted seeds below my window, but the old man next door used to pick them saying they were weeds. I did not have the heart to tell him they were mine, so I never saw them flower in the time we lived there. The next flat we had, I had a small bit and planted a few things. But when we came here I had this big, large garden at last!! What a feeling to look out at it, It was in a terrible state. The list includes PRAMS, BEDS HOOVERS, RUBBISH WOOD, BITS OF CARS, THE LIST WAS ENDLESS. So we cleared it all and I am still adding to it every year and love every minute of it. It is much nicer.
How I learned to garden.
I did not learn as such, I just seem to have "green Fingers" Quite lucky really. Eveything I put in grows. I love to see the first signs of something coming up in the spring or whenever. I have a great book which tells me a lot but I find I know already. It must come from somewhere but where I do not know. If you like doing something I think it comes naturally to you. If your stuck there is always someone to ask and they will help you . I am learning all the time and I thinks that's the best way . You never know everything. I love to be able to pick my own flowers and put them in a vase and say I Did that! So learning has come along with the want to learn
Lessons learned
- Its hard work but very rewarding. But you need patience and lots of it. If you want instant results then you are not a gardener
- I've learned to ask if stuck and to watch programmes on telly or read a good book. Take notes and you will see what plants you like.
- I love big tall plants, but My friend likes small tiny wee things So Ive been looking at them too now and see the beauty in them too. So have planted some over my wall and its lovely to see them grow under the large ones.
- It keeps you fit and lets you be out in all weathers which is great too.
- Over all gardening lifts my spirit and leaves me happy
