Hibiscus can look a little out of place in less than tropical gardens. Their large day-glo blooms don't blend particularly well with cottage garden plants. Hibiscus 'Garden Leader Gro Big Red' (that's an awfully long name) doesn't need to depend on its flowers to deserve a place in your garden. The deep red leaves could make it focal point for many gardens. I'm tempted to try it as a houseplant.

Hibiscus 'Garden Leader Gro Big Red' can grow to 5' tall. But since it is a tropical plant at heart, it might not bloom in cooler climates. Those with a long growing season will be treated to 3" burgundy red blooms complementing the purple red foliage. The rest of us can grow it as a full sun, ornamental foliage annual. (Tender Perennial. USDA Zones 8 - 10.)
