Plant Transplanting Tip - Keeping the Roots of New Plants Watered

An inexpensive way to increase the moisture retention when putting in new plants is to include some damp, shredded newspaper in the planting hole. The paper will eventually disintegrate, but initially it will absorb and hold moisture around the developing plant roots.

(Check that your newspaper uses non-toxic ink. Most newspapers have switched to a vegetable based dye, but it just takes a phone call to check.)
