Once the seed orders are in and the days are tempting you with more daylight, you can get your first gardening fix of the season with gardening classes and workshops, like those offered each spring at nurseries, colleges and Extensions.
Each year Horticulture magazine sponsors a traveling symposia series on gardening, plants, and design. The first in the 2005 series, Beyond the Garden Gate, begins on Jan. 29th, at the San Francisco Botanical Garden and makes its way across the country during the following week. Renowned designers and plant collectors, such as C. Colston Burrell, Keith Wiley, and Nicholas Staddon will share their personal approaches to bringing inspiration and pleasure to residential gardens.
The second symposium, Personal Gardening: Real Lessons From Designers' Own Gardens, will start at the Cranbrook Gardens Auxiliary in Troy, MI, on February 12th. Speakers will share the practical lessons they've learned while trying to please themselves in the creation of their own gardens.
