Guide Review - Cascade Gardens™ Adjustable Height Trellis
When I first heard about the Cascade Gardens™ Adjustable Height Trellis, I had visions of a trellis that would stretch and spring back according to my whim. This trellis isn’t quite that adjustable, but you can easily choose the length you’d like it to be, to accommodate your porch, fence post, mailbox or wherever. The downside is that you need to cut the cords, once you’ve established your size. Although I suppose you could always get new cords, if you wanted it longer in the future.
The trellis, which can be adjusted from 12” to 72”, comes delivered in pieces. Don’t let the number of pieces panic you. It really is as simple as sliding the line through a hole, tying a knot and snapping on a cover. It took me a little while to get all the cords the same length, but I did. The bottom of the trellis is slightly weighted and can be stabilized further by attaching it to the ground with landscape staples. I’d suggest doing this to keep the cords taut. Otherwise a clinging plant can twist them.
The trellis is not self-standing and needs to be attached to something. Ideally, it is designed to attach to an already standing structure, like a fence or mailbox. I chose to put my trellis in an open, sunny area, so I needed to put a pole in the ground first.
The trellis is made of black powder coated steel and UV protected plastic and is really quite decorative. You'll be tempted to take credit and say "See what I built". More models are in the works, including a lamp post model and one called the Skyscraper Garden (TM), which sounds like the small space gardening solution for growing vegetables and flowers vertically, along a house or wall.
All in all, the Cascade Gardens™ Adjustable Height Trellis is an attractive, reasonably priced solution for customized trellising of plants. It's quick to install and multi-functional.
