Violas all tend to look pretty much the same. We choose them based on our color preference more than anything else. 'Skippy XL Plum-Gold' is a bit richer in tones than its cousin 'Skippy Lavender/Yellow Face', but it still has a very soft, pastel-washed appeal. The black whiskers really stand out against the center gold.

The is a small flowered (1½") viola, but a profuse bloomer. In fact, it won the AAS award because of the abundance of blooms. In areas with a hard winter, it grows best in early spring to summer. Warm climate areas will prefer it in the fall garden. It's compact size and long bloom period make it ideal for cool season containers and window boxes.

Viola F1 'Skippy XL Plum-Gold' will be available as seed or bedding plants, beginning fall 2007.
