Creating a gardening gift basket starts with a great container. That shouldn't be so hard. Gardeners are always looking for containers to put something in, whether it’s a plant, cut flowers, the tomato harvest, seed packets, tools or... well you get the idea. This is a gift basket and baskets will work just fine, but take a look around and see if something else doesn’t strike your fancy.

What the heck's a hod? Well, it's basically a something you carry supplies in. This garden hod is like a basket, except it has a sturdy wire mesh bottom and wooden sides and handle. The open air design makes it perfect for harvesting vegetables or flowers and it's attractive enough to use as a container for a gift basket.
There's a large hod that measures 19-1/4"(l)x 11"(w) x 7-14"(h) and holds 16 quarts (2 Pecks) and the L'il Hod, which is slightly smaller at 16" (l) x 9" (w)x 5-1/4" (h)and holds half as much as the large hod.

This 16" self-watering blue jar looks like Italian ceramic, but it’s actually rugged, light-weight, shatterproof polypropylene. There’s a built-in 1-gallon reservoir and it’s frost and chip resistant. Also comes in other colors and sizes.

This 11 gallon size will hold and protect everything you put in. This style is made of polyethylene with 80% recycled content. There’s also a 7 gallon size. (Gardener’s Supply LS)

This model is made of cotton canvas, with drainage holes in the bottom of the bag for the inevitable dirt and water. I particularly like the padded handle.

They’re lovely enough to be a gift on their own, but tuck in a few well chosen treats and it’s even more special. This one is mine, but here's a similar model in metal for indoor or outdoor use. It measures 18" L x 12" W x 43" H and has a top vent for hot weather.
