Pre-Making Planting Holes for Stem Cuttings

Marie Iannotti
Pre-making holes in the rooting medium will insure that the rooting hormone remains on the plant stem cutting, not on the soil surface. This will improve chances of rooting the cuttings and making new house or garden plants.

With a pencil or similar pointed object, poke holes into the potting mix. Pre-making the planting holes will insure that the rooting hormone you will be using in the next step remains of the cuttings and doesn’t rub off on the potting mix.
