Definition: Palmately lobed describes a leaf that is divided into 3 or more distinct lobes, like the palm of your hand with outstretched fingers. For example, Maples. A palmate leaf is a compound leaf that is divided into leaflets whose stems emanate from a single central point. Esamples are horse chestnuts and buckeyes. When something is termed Pedate, it is either a palmate or a palmately lobed leaf where even the basal lobes or leaflets are lobed.
