By Marie Iannotti, About.com

Definition: Plant texture is generally consider the perceived surface structure of the plant. Is the foliage fine or coarse? Is the plant’s growth habit open and airy or dense? Texture is often influenced by the play of light on the plant. It is also hard to separate texture from form. An stiff upright form will appear coarser than a flexible stem fluttering in the breeze.
