I was never much of a rose gardener, but some of the new introductions have totally won me over. I've waxed on about my Flower Carpet roses. This year I'm sampling some more rose plants perfected sized for a smaller garden, like mine. The Conard-Pyle Co. and Star® Roses have several rose lines I'm sure you're familiar with, like the David Austin , the super hardy Meidiland® Landscape Shrub Roses and a little gem called Knock Out®.
I'm testing out some of their Drift® Roses, a cross between full-size groundcover roses and minature roses. They're tough, disease resistant, repeat-bloomers and they claim to be "virtually maintenance-free". The foliage was healthy and glossy, even in my wet, humid area. I tried several yummy shades last summer and this year I'm looking forward to Apricot Drift®, which I think will pair nicely with my favorite blue salvias.
