Melons aren’t in the top 10 of vegetables home gardeners tend to grow. They’re known for taking their time and hogging space. So breeders have been working to improve both these qualities. After all, how many families really need a 10 lb. melon?
‘Lambkin’ weighs in at about 2 - 4 lbs. And matures in 65 - 75 days, depending on the weather. Although ‘Lambkin’ has many appealing features, it was selected because of its flavor, which is supposed to be very juicy, sweet and aromatic - as a melon should be.
Since ‘Lambkin’ starts producing sooner than most similar melons, it should produce more melons during the course of the season. ‘Lambkin’ is also a good keeper, if stored in a cool place, like your fridge.
