When bright, loud colors are used in the plantings, a dark or duller colored focal point will grab the eye and allow the individual features of the surrounding plants to be featured.  This area would be a sea of green, if the brown urn weren't anchored there.  The changing foliage in the lower left corner is becoming a seasonal focal point.
