One of the hazards of wanting a garden that's continually in flower is you never have time to step back and enjoy it. You're always snipping and cutting. Most of us think that's part of the enjoyment of being in the garden, but I think we could all use a break now and then.
So today I'm offering a list of perennial flowers, that while not maintenance free, at least don't require any deadheading. These flowers will not bloom again, so there's no need to deadhead. That doesn't mean they only look good briefly. Most stay in bloom for weeks, some have flowers that dry on the plants, others have interesting seed pods and tantalizing foliage. Next time you're out there pinching off every little Coreopsis flower and deadheading seems like an endless chore, consider some of these options instead.
