Plants and flowers play a big part in the holiday season. We tend to think of mums as the colors of autumn, but I've been looking at Gerber daisies a lot lately and I'm starting to think there is no more vivid reminder of the season's jewel tones than these animated beauties. If the National Garden Bureau hadn't chosen them as their flower of the year, I don't think they would have crossed my mind, (Good job, NGB!) But these are the 5th most used cut flower in the world and surprisingly, we can grow them in our gardens, in containers and even as houseplants. They are on sale now and hard to miss. Maybe this Thanksgiving is a good time to test them out.
