Most roses need some extra TLC to make it through the vagaries of winter. Cold, harsh winds, ground that freezes and thaws... and freezes and thaws and freak heat wave, all test the hardiness of your rose bush. So, depending on where you are gardening, a little extra protection is not out of line. Certainly, if you're in USDA Zones 6 and lower, winter rose protection is a good bet. Zones 9 and above don't have to worry about freezing temperatures, but there are other winter miseries that can visit your roses. Here are some tips for helping your roses get through winter, whether it's wet or white.
