The Weeding Hour

I've probably spent more time weeding than doing any other single thing in the garden. If I don't stay on top of it, the task can become all consuming.

A few years ago I started keeping my scuffle hoe handy. I take it with me whenever I go out to check on a bed and especially when I'm heading into the vegetable garden. That way I can slice off any weeds along the way. I don't even have to bend down.

They say a few minutes with a hoe prevents a few hours of weeding, so today's 15 minute gardening tip is to dig out that hoe from the back of the shed and keep it handy for your next stroll in the garden.

Weeding is a great time to listen to a book… Download a nice long one onto your smart phone from Audible.com, plug in your earbuds, and you’ll be so engrossed you won’t want to come in to make dinner.

Good idea. Audio books and podcasts have gotten me through a lot of drudgery. Although I kind of enjoy weeding. (I know. I’m seeking help.) But I always listen to books when I mow.
