The peas and spinach are history. The cilantro is in full bloom. Lettuce is in it's 3rd planting and the pole beans have reached the top of the poles. But the first zucchinis are here, There are lots of new green tomatoes, the chard, kale and beets are going strong and ‛Parisian Market' carrots keep me in snacks. We had a brief heat wave last week and my vegetable garden took on a whole new look. It's summer and the eating is fresh. What's ready to pick in your garden?

I’m picking a lot of strawberries and boysenberries in my Northern California garden……
In Germany we had wonderful spinach, chard and green peas in June. Risi-e-bisi made from the peas was delicious, as were the cooked greens after the long winter period of fasting.
lisakaye, I’ve never grown boysenberries. Are they easy ti care for?
All these years I’ve been making rice and peas and I never knew there was a traditional dish called Risi-e-bisi! I’ll have to try some of the variations I just found on line. Thanks for the idea, Emillard38.
I’m waiting and drooling for my tomatoes to ripen. I bought large plants with baby fryuit on them this year. They just keep growing..
Other than that, I’ve been using herbs(thyme ,sage, chives, garlic, basil, cilantro) and eating violets and violas sprinkled on my salad.
Tomatoes always try our patience, don’t they?
I thought I was so clever spraying my violets and pansies, so the rabbits wouldn’t eat them all. Now I can’t eat them either.
In Georgia- Its gettin hot and have been getting cucs off the vine, but all of a suuden the plants are wilting and dieing off. Anyone got advise?
Marco, you might want to check for squash vine borers. Look at the base of the plants for small holes and what looks like saw dust. Here’s what you can do about them.
