Forcing Spring Flowering
Trees and Shrubs

I've heard the cherry trees have already started to bloom in Washington D.C. and my own daffodils have buds, so I can't complain about being tired of winter. But I know some of you are still snowbound and longing for a breath of spring air. By February, most spring blooming trees and shrubs have experienced a suitable  period of  cold dormancy and are just waiting for a little warmth to break out into a spring dance. You can wake them up early, with a little nudging. Cut a vase full of branches, for indoor color. It's not hard to force spring flowering trees into bloom and it's kind of fun to be able to control nature for a change. Especially when nature keeps us scratching our heads, like this winter.
