Some of the most charming plants are also the most subtle. Blue Star plants have soft, billowy foliage and true blue flowers that work well in combination with most other plants, yet they are not common sights in many gardens. Several Amsonia species are native to parts of North America and they grow with little maintenance and even fewer problems. Grow them for their surprising blue flowers, their airy foliage and their brilliant gold fall color. Arkansas Amsonia (Amsonia hubrichtii) has been named 2011 Perennial Plant of the Year, so we should be seeing much more of it. Check out Amsonia.

Yes, these are so nice! Visiting a freecycle friend, he had a little nature haven out back. His entire back yard was pathways, benches, streams and too many varieties of plants and trees to count. His Arkansas Amsonia stood out, I had to grab a few stray sprouts. Didnt know they flowered though, excellent! Im excited to get my hands on some award winning perennials
Trisha, it must be a nature haven. I’ve only occasionally heard of it sending out stray shoots and those times were when it received ideal conditions. Lucky you!
