I wonder if the Dutch ever get sick of tulips, the way we tire of black-eyed Susans and Hosta? It seems hard to believe, since tulips are such a welcome sight for any gardener waiting for the first signs of spring. Whether you've been hit by yet another winter storm or your seasons are running together without notice, you can still get a whiff of spring. Pots of spring bulbs in glorious bloom are showing up in grocery stores and discount chains everywhere and the Netherlands Flower Bulb Information Center suggests we claim them for our own gardens. Take a tip from those clever Dutch gardeners who know a thing or two about enjoying spring bulbs and "flank your front doors or windows... with pots of tulips, daffodils, crocus and hyacinths." Create an instant spring garden. Your inner gardener will thank you.

I love to force bulbs in late winter as well!
I fill one of my favorite ceramic dishes or bowls and fill it with a hand full or two of found pebbles and pour some water to just the middle or top of the rocks and then nestle my narcissus bulbs in there…and in a few weeks, voila!
