Moss looks wonderful on stones and stone walls and makes a cool and soothing lawn alternative. For every person who hates moss and tries to get rid of it, there are several gardeners out there trying to get moss to grow where it won’t. Mosses are a type of plant with no conventional leaves, stems or roots. To complicate matters further, they don’t flower or set seed. Yet they grow in the oddest of places, like on your roof or sidewalk.
The easiest way to get moss to grow where you want it is to transplant the moss you have, either in tact or as a slurry, and then give it the growing conditions it needs to make itself at home. Here’s some help getting moss to grow on rocks and other spots in your garden.

is there any fertilizer or Plant growth regulator that can be applied to accelerate the growth of moss?
It’s funny what you miss when you move to a different region of the country. I grew up in Indiana where moss grows like a weed. I now live in Utah and you can’t grow moss here as it’s just not moist enough. I miss all the green, including the green moss. I can’t believe people would want to get rid of it!
According to Paul James, first you need shade.
Then make a mixture of Stale Beer, Buttermilk, and a chunk of Moss. Mix in blender, and paint it on. You must keep it damp, but don’t wash it off. Keep this up until you get as much moss as you want, where you want.
spray round-up and the next year you will have moss
Emirgarden, I’ve always read to go easy on fertilizer for moss. It likes compost tea, but some fertilizers can actually inhibit moss growth.
Round-up will get rid of the grass, so moss can move in. But you’ll still need good moss growing conditions. Otherwise you’ll just get weeds, trust me.
