Well when you think about it, what ornamental is more attractive than a head of 'Merlot' lettuce. If we're going to get all excited every time they come out with a new Heuchera, lettuce deserves no less respect.

Alright, I wouldn't waste my lettuce edging the flower beds when I know very well the rabbits will clean me out over night. But there's a whole world of salad greens and reds and speckles and, beautiful as they are, they are very easy to grow and even easier to enjoy. Try Growing Fresh Salad Greens in Your Vegetable Garden. That pale, green ball in the grocery store is just the tip of the iceberg.

I use lettuce to border my flower beds all the time. Of course mine doesn’t look as pretty as the display at the garden shop, but I try!

Aldea, do you harvest that lettuce? And how long does it hold up for you?

I like to eat lettuce, but I never have an idea to grow it in my garden…
