Featured Photo of the Week: "Amazon Passion"

Sunday January 18, 2009
I got some wonderful photo submissions when I asked for shots of your garden in winter. Some are blankets of white and others, like Simon Aiken's South Africa garden shown here, are the envy of every Northern gardener right now. How's this for a welcoming entrance. Yes, this is an outdoor garden. Simon gardens along the Atlantic coast in Sea Point, a suburb of Cape Town. This is the front yard approach to his apartment or flat. It's a small space, as most apartment yards are, but it's packed full of tropical plants and amazing Asian inspired statuary and features. Simon obviously has an artist's eye and a firm grasp of design. His exquisite garden was recently featured in South African Garden & Home magazine, where he described his garden style as "Amazon Passion". Simon has shared several more photos with us and they're all in this month's winter photo gallery.

If you'd like to share a photo of your garden in winter, just follow these steps.

Hi Marie-
Simon’s garden is extraordinary. I had to take a second look when you wrote that this is the entrance to an apartment/flat! I see you got a nice response. I’m enjoying your gallery.
