Sweet Peas - Perfect for the Start of the Gardening Season.

Tuesday December 16, 2008
Long blooming and fragrant, with an almost unparalleled range of colors, Sweet Peas (Lathyrus odoratus) seem at home in any garden. I like to plant them with my pole beans, in my vegetable garden, to attract more bees and simply because they dress the place up. I have a very hard time cutting Sweet Peas to bring indoors; they look too delicate to survive abuse. But they’re not. The only way to make a Sweet Pea swoon is to expose her to hot temperatures. So if you’re at the start of your growing season, it’s Sweet Pea season for you now. If you’re still in the planning stages, choose a couple of packets of Sweet Pea seeds to dress up your gardens and tables and prepare to be intoxicated.
