Finding a Spot in the Shade

Monday July 21, 2008
Ah summer. The scents, the flavors, the heat. Sunshine is a gift and sometimes it’s one of those gifts that keep giving. Maybe it’s finally time to think about putting a shade tree or 2 in the yard. I can’t suggest any that will give instant shade. For that you’d need magic bean seeds. But David Beaulieu has picked his choices for the Top 3 Fast-Growing Shade Trees and he gives some advice on choosing and growing them. Why not plan a visit to the nursery this weekend, very early before the heat and the crowds, and take advantage of the late season specials.

It’s a little hot to be planting trees, but they’re already balled and burlapped, so you’re not disturbing them. You’re actually doing them a favor and giving your landscape a head start. Just be sure to keep them well watered throughout the summer. David can give you some tips on successfully transplanting your new trees, too!
