Red Raspberry Leaves - Better Than Berries

Saturday April 19, 2008
Sometimes I feel like there are more leaves in my compost pile than in my garden. When I finish pruning and look at the pile I’m tossing away, I try and console myself that it will all find its way back to my garden eventually. That’s what’s nice about pruning in an herb garden, if you can call pinching back the basil pruning. I just learned from Amy Jeanroy, our new Herb Garden Guide, that red raspberry leaves are edible and make a great tea. That’s good to know. They even have some medicinal properties, but who needs an excuse to have more raspberries?

Red raspberry leaf tea is excellent!
But don’t drink it if you are pregnant and in your 1st and 2nd trimester. It can induce labor.
It is safe for full-term pregnant drinkers though. I drank alot of it when I was ready to deliver.

I think that it is important to talk to your health care provider on this one. RRL is a fabulous tea for pregnancy and women in general. As with anything, there are always exceptions to the rule.

The article also recommends staying away from herbs like chamomile and nettles. I would just go to a health care provider with even the most basic of herbal knowledge, and talk with them.
