Gardening Question of the Week - Is it True You Can Use Baking Soda to Get Rid of Powdery Mildew?

Thursday April 17, 2008
This week’s question is a general one that I’ve been getting a lot lately and expect to hear even more of, as the season progresses. It’s good to answer it now, because while baking soda does indeed help with powdery mildew, it’s more of a preventative than a cure. Here’s the recipe for making baking soda fungicide. Try it at the first sign of mildew and see what you think.

I’ve tried to stick with plants that are in general distribution, so you should be able to find them searching on Google name and the term ’source’. by plant s. Some of the new seed grown introductions may not be available yet online as plants. you’d have to either do a search for seed or check your local specialty nurseries to see if they stock them. I don’t list sources, because nurseries change their catalogs so often, with all the new varieties that come out every year.
