Gardening Question of the Week
What's a Good Hosta Substitute for Full Sun?

Thursday January 3, 2008
Krutika posted this question on the About Gardening Forum: "I live in, and have a south west facing sunny backyard. I love hostas, but is there any similar looking broad-leafed beauty that grows in sunny area? Also my front yard receives morning sun, will hostas grow here?"

Some Hosta can take more sun than others. The yellow leaved varieties are quite tolerant of sun, while the blue leaved varieties, with their waxy coating, will fry in sun and heat. I suggest Heuchera (Coral Bells), which is being bred in all colors and sizes, like Heuchera 'Green Spice' shown here.

If you have any suggestions for Krutika, please post them over at the Forum.
