The Sweet Smell of Garlic

Saturday August 11, 2007
Seed garlic should start showing up in garden centers about this time of year. Well, it's not really seed, it's the whole clove. But since we're going to be putting it in the ground, we call it seed garlic. Same as potatoes.

It's a bit early to be planting garlic, for most of us, but for the best choice of varieties you have to shop now. Growing garlic is so easy, I can’t imaging why it’s not in everyone’s garden. Poke a few cloves in the ground in the fall, and come spring, you can start heating up the olive oil. There are hundreds of wonderful garlic varieties you will probably never get to experience unless you grow them yourself. Here’s a sampler. I’m only sorry we don’t have scratch & sniff abilities.
