Growing Asparagus
A Sure Sign Spring is Here

Friday March 9, 2007
Gardeners don't often think of the vegetable patch as a perennial garden, but there are a few vegetable crops that actually are perennials. Asparagus is one. Plant it once and it keeps on giving. There is some up front work to be done, before you can enjoy the harvest, but a well-established asparagus bed can produce for decades. I especially like asparagus because it's one of the earliest spring vegetables and it means the gardening season has truly begun. If you don't have asparagus poking out of the ground in your vegetable garden yet, scoop up some crowns at the local garden center and put growing asparagus on your To Do list for 2007.
