The Year of Cabbage and Kale
Cool Season Vegetable Stars
Sunday February 4, 2007
The National Garden Bureau has named 2007 the Year of Cabbage and Kale. What that means to us is that we’ll be seeing more varieties and more interest in spreading the word about growing cabbage and kale. I certainly hope you’re not turning up your noses. Both cabbage and kale are among the hardiest and most nutritious vegetables a home gardener can grow. And they’re not bad looking plant either. It’s not unusual to find them poking out of an otherwise ornamental planting. So cole slaw or golumpki, savoyed or Chinese, green, yellow, blue or red... there’s bound to be a cabbage or kale perfect for your vegetable garden. Be trendy this year and plant a cole crop.
