Growing Catmint - 2007 Perennial Plant of the Year
Friday November 3, 2006
Some must-have plants entice us with the unusual. Maybe it’s eye-popping color, a graceful arching form or super-sized flowers. Other must-have plants simply deliver. Catmint (Nepeta) delivers. Catmint is extremely hardy, drought tolerant and virtually maintenance free. All this and catmint repeat blooms sporadically throughout the summer, too. The Perennial Plant Association has chose ‘Walker’s Low’ Nepeta as their 2007 Plant of the Year and sings the praises of catmints in general. With their billowing growth habit, catmints make ideal companions for plants with ugly knees, they’re great edgers, wonderful cascading over walls and walkways and they make a viable substitute for lavender, when lavender won’t cooperate. What’s not to love?"
