Time Out for Some Garden Humor

By June 17, 2006

Follow me on:

The Herb Garden is a developing site that offers something most other gardening sites don't have - a garden humor section. Everyday gardening terms are viewed from a slightly askew perspective. For instance: "Nursery: The only known place where money grows on trees." When you've finished deadheading and mulching this weekend, sneak a peek and have a good laugh at gardening's expense.

We once had a good laugh on the Forum with "You Know You're a Gardener When...", with such words of wisdom as "You know you're a gardener when your gardens are cleaner than your house". I'd love to hear any insights you might have about knowing when you've gone over to the green side.

(1) Pauline McAuley says:

You know you’re a gardener when;

…every day’s a good weather day to work in the garden.

…your morning coffee doesn’t taste as good if you don’t get to walk around the garden while you’re having it.

…you count the new blooms every morning and evening.

…you gingerly deadhead those that have passed and feel a sort of tender spiritual reverence as you do so.

…letting the blooms live and die in the garden is more meaningful than cutting an arrangement for your dining room table.

(4) Donna says:

1. You know you’re a gardener when you can’t get your right thumbnail clean from using it to deadhead your flowers.

2. You know you’re a gardener when you go out into your garden to quickly do one thing, and end up in the garden for several hours (one thing leads to another, leads to another).

(6) Kristy says:

You know you’re a gardener when you think of your plants like your own children.

You know you’re a gardener when you talk to your plants, and you’re convinced they talk back.

You know you’re a gardener when you have more pictures of plants than people in your photo album.

(8) June says:

You know you’re a gardener when…….
You come home from work to check on the “babies”
(dragging the spouse with you)and you don’t have any kids at home any more.

You know you’re a gardener when……
You spend ten times the money to grow a tomato than it would cost to buy one.
