Having a vegetable garden is one of the most personal forms of gardening. It touches all the senses and let’s face it, gardeners grow what they like to eat. So growing things well is all the more important in a vegetable patch. This photo gallery highlights three very different vegetable gardeners who show their love for their gardens through the pictures they captured. I hope it inspires you to get out there and grow something delicious too, no matter how limited your space. Photo Courtesy of Mike Desmarais

Your dogs should only have burned the part of the tree they came in contact with. I haven’t heard of dog urine killing a whole tree. So there is probably another problem.

I really can’t say without seeing the trees. If all the needles have turned black, there’s probably nothing you can do. If the die back is just beginning, take a closer look at the trees.

If you just planted them last fall, it could be a problem with the roots or soil. Again, I can’t say without seeing them, but you can check for signs of rot or animal damage.

Also look closely at the needles for signs of insects or disease: black dots, webbing, holes…

Or they could have been the victim of harsh winter weather. If young trees are exposed to cold, drying winds and the roots don’t receive enough water before the ground freezes, the tree will dry out.

If you purchased them from a nursery that offers a 1 year guarantee on trees, bring them in a sample and see what they have to say. Otherwise your best bet it to take a sample to your Cooperative Extension office for an accurate id.

I hope this helps.
