One Gardener's Look at the Wilder Side of His Garden
Tuesday November 15, 2005
Helen South, About's Drawing / Sketching Guide, recently wrote me about a wonderful book of sketches and anecdotes from the garden. The book is Rough Patch by Richard Bell, a British writer and illustrator who says 'We all go through rough patches and we need to step out into another kind of space. We need those quiet, tangled corners . . . and the wildlife needs them too." Rough Patch takes us through "...the wilder side of his garden' in the British countryside. It sounds like the perfect book to remind us not to overlook the small joys in nature while we're working to control the grand scheme in our gardens. Take a peek at Helen's review of Rough Patch and you'll pick up her enthusiasm. I'm putting it on my Christmas list.
